Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 champion and Sky F1 pundit, criticized Lando Norris for errors he committed on his way to win the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.
While Norris beat Max Verstappen in dominant fashion to the chequered flag in Singapore one week ago, the victory was not perfect, as the former's race could've ended in tears.
Norris hit the wall, slightly damaging his front wing on one occasion, and after that he clipped the barriers with his rear right tyre, an error identical to that of Mercedes' George Russell in the 2023 version of the race and which ended the Briton's race.
Later, and while trying to pass back-markers, Norris ran wide off track but survived to take the chequered flag, 20 seconds ahead of Verstappen.
Rosberg was perplexed by Norris' errors while leading the Singapore Grand Prix unchallenged and told the
Sky Sports F1 Podcast: "It kind of baffled me a little bit what was going on there because he hit the wall twice.
"Both were like really severe, almost race-ending moments where he was quite lucky not to be DNF," he added. "He went miles off the track in a hairpin, out-braking, but really not a small out-braking, like a massive out-braking.
"And the other time he hit the same wall that George Russell hit last year, where he went crashing out on the last lap of the race.
"And what you maybe don't remember is he went off the track again when he was passing a back-marker, which was a Williams.
"So, there's three moments here. And that's so strange," Rosberg insisted.
While Norris is tipped for F1 championship glory and is Verstappen's only challenger in 2024, Rosberg pointed out that champions like himself, Lewis Hamilton, and Verstappen do not make such errors.
He said: "I can't remember myself or a Max Verstappen or Lewis (Hamilton), when leading so comfortably with 30 seconds, making three major mistakes like that. That was a bit strange.
"I know Singapore is so hard - concentration, physically, it's so, so tough, but I don't know what it's down to that there's so many little [errors].
"But we know that Lando tends to make those little errors all the time everywhere. We've seen that from him, and he needs to iron that out if he wants to fight for the championship this year," the German concluded.
