The new season is almost here, but with new F1 rules to
catch up on, new contenders on the field, and time to still wait, there’s never
been a better time to prepare than now.
This guide covers the essential changes
to this year’s F1 Grand Prix, all the way to how you can dive right into the
best the season has to offer. When Does the Season Officially Start?
The new season officially kicks off in Australia on the
weekend of March 6 to 8, which gives fans ample enough time to catch up on the
new changes to the car design, and to learn all they can about Cadillac and
Audi (who have taken over Sauber).
If you’re sitting at the edge of your seat
waiting for action, however, there are a few ways you can pass the time. From
playing sports and racing-themed games on
Kanuuna.com,
to watching the test races, to reading the press releases and coverage in the
lead-up, there are plenty of ways you can enjoyably pass the time.
First Things First, The New Rules
This year
marks
new rules, ushering in innovation and, of course, a refresh on who’s top
dog. What you can expect from these new rules is a whole new redesign of the F1
car, with the bodies being smaller and more aerodynamic. They’ve also
overhauled the power unit rules.
So, what does this mean for fans?
You can expect smaller, shorter, narrower cars. The
wheelbase has also been shortened, so we might see more responsive cornering.
The tires are also narrower to cut down on drag. The most impressive change,
however, is the introduction of Active Aero, which means that the drivers can
now adjust the angle of their front and rear wing elements to adjust drag
levels and, theoretically, boost top speed.
In general, these changes should make the car standards more
adaptable to a variety of driving styles, allowing for more excitement on the
track, particularly thanks to those adaptive wings that can be adjusted to cut
back drag.
Who are the New Contenders?
We’ll see
Cadillac for
the first time on the F1 track. Audi are also making an appearance, though
they’ve taken over Sauber, so their team should be familiar. Red Bull
Powertrains, which have teamed up with Ford, are also making their debut on the
track. We’ll also see a return with Honda coming back into the fray.
These teams, of course, are competing alongside long-time
giants on the F1 track. Expect to see Ferrari, McLaren, RedBull, Aston Martin,
and Haas as always.
There are a host of test races lined up before the big
kickoff on March 6th. You can follow the specific sports brands, F1
fanatics, or even take matters into your own hands by playing a game.
From
racing games to online-themed slot games, there are infinite ways to have fun
and build up anticipation for that ever-exciting first Grand Prix.
