Auction house Christie's held a preview event in Geneva on Thursday ahead of its sale of eight watches belonging to the decorated Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher on Monday.

The collection, which include timepieces by the watchmakers Rolex, F.P. Journe and Audemars Piguet, have been put up for sale by the family of Schumacher, who in 2013 suffered a severe head injury in a fall while skiing off-piste.
Two of the watches were custom made for Schumacher and given to him as Christmas presents in 2003 and 2004 by his Ferrari team principal Jean Todt.
One of these, an F.P. Journe with references to the former Ferrari pilot's seven F1 Driver's Championships, is estimated to bring up to 2 million Swiss francs ($2.21-Million) when it next week goes under the hammer.
Schumacher won an unprecedented seven F1 Championships, two with Benetton in 1994 and 1995. He moved to Ferrari in 1996 and went on to win five more F1 Title with them between 2000 and 2004.
Schumacher retired for the first time from F1 at the end of the 2006 season but returned with Mercedes in 2010 to spearhead the project that morphed from Brawn GP. He retired for good at the end of the 2012 F1 season.
Schumacher held record number of wins (91) and poles (68) and was only eclipsed by Lewis Hamilton (103 wins and 104 poles) who took over his seat at Mercedes in 2013. Hamilton won his seventh F1 Title in 2020 and is now level with Schumacher.
