Mercedes will have some more items on their W15 for this weekend's 2024 Canadian GP, and both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will have the updated front wing the latter used in Monaco.
Mercedes continued their upgrade package for the W15 in Monaco, but a only one new front wing was available, which was given to Russell after discussions with Hamilton who recommended that, but pointed out after being outqualified by his teammate that he did not have the new wing.
Russell finished the race in Monaco fifth, while Hamilton finished seventh, the same positions they qualified in, and while they were in a separate division compared to the front runners and those behind them, Toto Wolff insisted there was progress.
In Mercedes' Canadian GP preview, Wolff said: "We had an encouraging
weekend in Monaco. We continued to make solid progress with our car, improving its overall balance and taking a step closer to those ahead.
"That progress isn't yet showing in terms of positions but if we can continue to close the gap to the fastest cars, we know it will in due course.
"Both drivers will have the updated front wing in Canada, plus some other development items for this event," the Austrian revealed. "It offered a small lap time gain around the tight streets of the Principality and should offer greater benefit on upcoming circuits.
"That said, the picture at the front of the field is incredibly competitive. The field has compressed, and we are under no illusions that others will continue to improve. We will have to continue to work hard and diligently to get ourselves into the mix," the Mercedes boss maintained.
As for the race in Montreal, Wolff added: "The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a brilliant track. It offers a mix of low-speed corners and high-speed straights which makes for great racing. We always enjoy returning to Montreal as the fans are incredibly passionate about F1.
"We've enjoyed many good moments there over the years and hopefully we can add to those this weekend," the 52-year-old concluded.
Mercedes head into the Canadian GP fourth in the 2024 F1 Constructors' Championship on 96 points, 86 points behind McLaren in third. Russell is seventh in the Drivers' Standings with 54 points while Hamilton is 12 points behind in eighth.
