Martin Brundle claimed Max Verstappen's 2024 Sao Paulo Grand Prix win was not about luck, but the Verstappen's talent level that made the difference in the treacherous conditions.

After seeing his Formula 1 title challenge receive a huge blow in last weekend's race in Brazil, Lando Norris said Verstappen got lucky winning from 17th on the grid as he was helped by a Red flag period that presented a free pit stop for the reigning F1 champion.
But the fact remains that Verstappen took care of his tyres on the opening stint of the race, which meant he could stay out as the conditions worsened and the race stoppage was beckoning, which meant he took advantage while McLaren pitted Norris just before that as the Briton continuously called for new tyres over the team radio.
Brundle, a former F1 driver and respected pundit of the sport, was asked by Sky Sports News whether Norris would see things differently after re-watching the race.
He responded: "I think he will because Max was in a class of one. Those conditions suit his talent level.
"The McLaren wasn't the fastest car in the rain, which was a bit surprising because they looked so good in qualifying in wet conditions.
"Max got unlucky with the red flag in qualifying, but he stayed out on track in the race and expected a Safety Car or a red-flag situation.
"So he knew what to do, and then he just steamed off and won by 19 seconds at a canter, really, it was a classic drive.
"Formula 1 did really well to get the race underway and finished, actually," Brundle concluded.
While Verstappen won in Sao Paulo, Norris finished sixth on a day when he was not at his best with several errors marring his race including a bad start that saw George Russell overtake him in addition to a couple of off-track moments.
The result means that Verstappen now has one hand on his fourth F1 championship trophy as he now leads Norris by 62 points in the drivers' standings.
