Red Bull Formula 1 driver consultant Helmut Marko did not hide his disappointment in Sergio Perez's 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, insisting he expected more from the underperforming driver.

Perez's future has been in the spotlight for some time now as his performances have not been up to the Red Bull Racing standard recently, and while he had a strong race in Hungary, followed up by an impressive qualifying at Spa, the Mexican struggled again in the Belgian GP on Sunday.
Perez was third fastest in qualifying, but started the race from second after teammate Max Verstappen dropped ten places from pole due to an engine penalty. However he crossed the line in eighth and got promoted to seventh after George Russell was disqualified for an illegal underweight car.
Speaking to Sky Germany after the race, Marko reflected: "Sergio had the opportunity to take a good result from second place.
"Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Especially in the last stint, he completely collapsed, where he set 1m48s lap times. What looked so positive in qualifying unfortunately didn't materialize in the race," he lamented.
The Austrian has revealed earlier that he would be travelling to England, to Red Bull's Milton Keynes headquarters, to discuss Perez's future with the team, and he was asked about that meeting.
He said: "For us, the situation is such that we will also go through the overall situation for 2025. We have a number of drivers and we have a concept.
"But of course every result is [important] for Sergio, and eighth [became seventh] place from second on the grid is certainly not what we expected," Marko concluded.
