Helmut Marko has moved to play down Jos Verstappen's concerns about progress at Red Bull with their engine partner Honda and is adamant that the energy drinks outfit will win the five races he predicted they would earlier this year.
Jos, who is Max Verstappen's father and co-manager, said after a string of uncompetitive races for the team: "They really need to change things otherwise next year will be lost as well."
Following Verstappen's comments, Marko said his pre-season prediction of five wins in 2019 is still on track. 22-year-old Verstappen has already won twice this season.
He told Servus TV, “At the press conference in Tokyo I promised five wins and some people said I was crazy or whatever. I still believe we can attain them.”
At the same time Marko has always insisted that Red Bull "don’t want to keep Max if we can’t provide him with a winning outfit, and that’s the aim. The aim is still to make him the youngest F1 world champion ever.”
The remaining races that should be kind to the Red Bull package are likely to be Mexico and Interlagos, while Honda a sure to provide maximum artillery for their teams at Suzuka, which they own. Whether the Blues can take those chances will determine if Marko is correct or off the mark with bis prediction.
Big Question: Can Red Bull win another three races this season?
