Valery Markelov, father of Formula 2 driver Artem Markelov was arrested in Sochi this weekend as part of an investigation and crackdown on a corrupt high-level multi-billion dollar bribe.
Crime Russia, quoting an unnamed source,
reports that "law enforcers have issues with Valery Markelov regarding the corruption case against Deputy Head of the GUEBiPK Ministry of Internal Affairs Dmitry Zakharchenko. "
"The businessman is suspected of giving a $3.4-billion bribe to the Billionaire-Colonel. According to the investigation, most of the funds seized at Zakharchenko’s secret apartment were given by Markelov."
According to investigators, Zakharchenko served as the 'security service' head of the 1520 group of companies and was on a payroll.
According to the source, the FSB officers detained him in Sochi, Markelov has already been transferred to Moscow and was due to appear in court this afternoon to learn of his fate.
Markelov junior is one of Russia's highly-rated young drivers, a front-runner in Formula 2 he made his Formula 1 debut in FP1 for his home race last Friday.
