Mick Schumacher’s Formula 1 return hopes have been boosted by Cadillac team principal Graeme Lowdon, who confirmed that the German is among the candidates for the American outfit’s 2026 entry.
While Schumacher’s current focus lies in the World Endurance Championship, where he has delivered strong results in Alpine’s Hypercar programme, his ambition remains firmly fixed on a return to the top tier of single-seater racing.
The 26-year-old scored podium finishes at the 6 Hours of Imola and Spa this season, alongside Jules Gounon and Frédéric Makowiecki, following a similar third-place result at Fuji in 2023.
Lowdon confirmed Cadillac’s interest in Schumacher during an appearance on the
High Performance Podcast: “Yes, we’re talking to Mick.”
He added, however, that the team is not looking for drivers trying to make a personal statement: “Of course, he can prove what he can do, but this isn’t the right place to show the world something, or whatever.
"The driver is there to do his best for his team, and he should also be motivated for the team that works with him. That’s why I’m not very enthusiastic about people who want to somehow prove something personal," explained Lowdon.
Cadillac has not yet confirmed its 2026 driver lineup, but the shortlist reportedly includes several big names. Valtteri Bottas is understood to be a serious contender, while
Sergio Pérez is also the top contender and favourite for the seat.
Son of the great
Michael Schumacher, Mick’s chances may hinge on whether the team values his mix of F1 experience and current WEC momentum over drivers with more established Grand Prix credentials.
