Charles Leclerc claims some of his dreams were realized in the 2024 Formula 1 season despite Ferrari's failure to beat McLaren to the constructors' title.
Leclerc finished the 2024 F1 season third in the drivers' standings while Ferrari lost out to McLaren
by a painful 14 points in the constructors.
Leclerc had to fight against the odds in the season finale, the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and drove the wheels off his SF-24 to finish third after starting from 19th on the grid due to a penalty for taking a new battery pack. Carlos Sainz was second, with Lando Norris winning, which meant McLaren prevailed.
Leclerc cut a disappointed figure in Abu Dhabi, but when he received his FIA trophy for third place in the 2024 F1 drivers' championship, he was able to take some more positives from his season, pointing out the highlights that he enjoyed.
"It's been a very long season," he said, "but I've realized some of my dreams, probably. There is obviously one highlight, which is Monaco for me.
"Growing up in Monaco and dreaming of being a Ferrari driver, that is where my passion started for motorsports, and to be able to win in Monaco is very, very special; winning in Monza as well.
"And another dream that was quite unexpected last weekend, that was to drive with my younger brother in Free Practice 1, which was a very special moment for our family.
"So all in all, a lot of positive moments in a season like this," the Monegasque concluded.
Leclerc was joined by his younger brother, Arthur, in FP1 for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, making history as the first time two brothers shared an F1 track with the same team as part of Ferrari's plan to complete their allocation of young driver practice sessions per season.
But change is on the horizon for Leclerc, as he will now have a new teammate in 2025 in the form of seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who is coming from Mercedes. Sainz will move to Williams.
