Lando Norris delivered a dominant drive to win the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, but it was not perfect as he survived a couple of moments with the walls of the Marina Bay Circuit.
The McLaren pit wall had their hearts in their throats a couple of times during the Singapore Grand Prix when Norris touched the walls, once when he locked up going into Turn 14, slightly damaging his front wing, while he also tagged the walls with his rear tyre at the same place were Mercedes' George Russell crashed in the race last year.
However Norris survived both incident to take the win, over 20 seconds clear of second placed Max Verstappen in the Red Bull.
He joked about the incidents after the race and said: "A few too many close calls - I had a couple of little moments in the middle - but it was well controlled, I think, otherwise."
Later, in
McLaren's post race report, Norris added: "Another win! I'm so happy with today, it was an amazing performance from the team.
"The car was mega so I could push. We were fast throughout the whole race, and at the end, I could focus to see it out.
"It was still a very tough race with a few too many close calls," the Briton pointed out. "It was very easy to lock-up a tyre – which I did a couple of times, but I was pushing because I wanted to have the biggest lead possible.
"It's nice to have Oscar on the podium too. He drove well, and we got a lot of points, so a good way to thank the team for their hard work," Norris concluded.
Back-to-back victories a milestone for McLaren
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella summed up his team's successful Singapore Grand Prix; he said: "A fantastic evening here in Singapore with a dominant victory for Lando, and Oscar managing to recover a couple of positions and finishing in P3.
"Achieving back-to-back victories is another milestone for us," the Italian hailed. "The car was strong all weekend, making us optimistic for the rest of the season. We extend our lead in the Constructors' Championship, and Lando reduces the gap to Max in the race for the Drivers' Championship.
"We will take time to celebrate our achievements today before switching our focus tomorrow to the upcoming triple-header," Stella concluded.
