Kimi Antonelli took Max Verstappen out of the 2025 Austrian Grand Prix after losing control of his Mercedes at Turn 3 on the opening lap of the race.

Antonelli appeared to be locking up hard and was unable to stop his car that speared into the RB21 of Verstappen, with both retiring on the spot.
Antonelli and Verstappen appeared to have a brief chat after the race, the four-time Formula 1 champion showing composure and calm as he walked away from his stricken car.
Speaking after the incident, Antonelli was apologetic and explained his side of the story; he said: "I didn’t necessarily brake too late.
"It’s just that when I braked, I braked hard because I was behind other cars, and in that moment I locked the rears. Then I just couldn’t stop the car.
"I locked the rear and then lost the car and then had to avoid Lawson. Then it was too late because I was arriving just too quick. I started to lock the front, and instead of decelerating, I was accelerating. The car was just taking speed, and the crash was inevitable.
"Just feel super sorry to the team, and to Max of course, because obviously he was just a passenger," the Italian rookie lamented.
Antonelli, was eager to move on and said: "Of course, it’s a big mistake.
"Now we need to move forward and focus on Silverstone. We’ll see if we get a penalty or not, but it’s going to be important to get back and start doing like I did in Canada," he concluded.
Indeed, Antonelli was investigated by the stewards and was given and three-place on the starting grid of the upcoming 2025 British Grand Prix at Silverstone next weekend. He was also slapped with two penalty points on his super license.
