Everybody knows that Haas has bought technology off Ferrari, as much technology as they’re allowed to buy and as a result, they are as close to a customer team that Formula 1 currently allows.
Now two teams, McLaren and Force India, are according to reports complaining about that relationship. Even Alonso has said the current Haas looks like last year’s Ferrari. Does it?
Personally, I think it’s more like this year’s Ferrari. So, in a completely unscientific method, I’ve taken the launch images as presented on this website and done a very quick comparison.
What is similar? Nosecone has the same front wing holing method and narrowed profile. Although difficult to see, the front wing and its elements look very similar too.
Then there’s the winglet which is identical between them. Air-intake for the airbox is very similar too, but other teams have similarity here. Side profile from the driver to the rear of the gearbox is different, but the key here is now narrow they are and that stands these apart from 2017 cars.
Is it the same? There’s a lot of parts on the car which seem to be the same, but there’s also significant areas which are different.
