Honda have issued a cheeky message on social media promoting their 2019 NSX ahead of this weekend's Tokyo Auto Salon, the car shown in the Tweet is bright orange and they ask the question: Know anyone who likes orange?
The Tweet (below) popped up on the official Honda Racing F1 account, inadvertently or not it sure looks like a well-aimed torpedo at McLaren who have turned to their traditional orange in this sponsorless era they find themselves in.
We all remember how in 2014 the McLaren-Honda partnership was announced, promising a return to former glory. That all went pear-shaped and at the end of 2017 they went their separate ways, a tale well told on this site.
However, no matter what anyone says there was bad blood and bitterness, with Honda made to look the culprits with McLaren's fake claims they had the best chassis on the grid that year.
Honda, stung by constant abuse from the McLaren stronghold led by moaner in chief Fernando Alonso, were determined to fight back and word is nothing will be spared by the auto giant until they can really prove how badly McLaren blundered in ditching them.
For now the decision by Zak Brown and his crew to switch to Renault was a good one, they turned ninth in the constructors' championship to sixth. Honda was again down in ninth with Toro Rosso.
From within the Red Bull-Honda camp there is no doubt that they will beat McLaren powered by Renault but until the new cars run in anger we all know that the reverse could also happen. Nevertheless, F1 fans have another interesting sideshow in a season sure to be packed with them.
Perhaps it was an innocent faux pas or a tongue in cheek caper by the Honda social media team, but I am hoping the little Tweet is the first salvo in a truly juicy rivalry with the two ex-partners intent on proving the other wrong from today and beyond.
The woman scorned thing springs to mind...
