Lewis Hamilton admitted that he and his Mercedes colleagues underperformed throughout the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, where he finished in P7.

The seven-time world champion was off the pace in qualifying, only quick enough to start the race seventh on the grid, before the team ran a sub-optimal strategy that saw him lose ground to both Sergio Perez and Sebastian Vettel.
Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas was forced to retire following a slow pit stop where the crew where unable to remove his front right tyre. The Finn had been running in second position.
Speaking after race, Hamilton said that there would be discussions "in the background" about what went wrong in a bid to put things right.
“We’ll do all our talking in the background and we’ll work together and try and come out of this stronger,” he said. “We underperformed as a team all weekend from the get-go so we’ll just put our focus onto the next race.
"Congratulations to Max and his team, they did a great job."
The win for Max Verstappen gave the Dutchman the lead in the drivers' championship, a position Hamilton does not feel overly confident he will be able to regain at the next race in Baku, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
“It’s another Red Bull track so it’ll be hard to beat them there," he added.
"But we’ll try our best. I can’t see it being hugely dissimilar except for the long straights where usually Ferrari are a little bit down.”
