The England team did not qualify for the 2018 World Cup Final but did come desperately close with a solid showing during a topsy-turvy tournament in Russia, delivering a performance which impressed Lewis Hamilton who followed their progress with interest throughout the past month.
On Wednesday night in Moscow, a gutsy Croatian team performance to win 2-1 and with it broke English hearts including that of the country's Formula 1 World Champion, who tweeted: "I’m so proud of our Boys & to be honest, the whole country. I’ve been inspired by the spirit of our people all coming together during this time. It’s what makes me so proud to be British. Let’s hold on to that fighting spirit & stand tall & United. It will come home one day!"
Hamilton peppered his social media accounts with messages of support throughout the tournament, embracing the spirit and enthusiasm that this edition of the football World Cup infused into his country.
