Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he will take each of the remaining grand prix races as they come with no expectations, while declaring that to him it makes no difference if he is hunting or being hunted in the Formula 1 world title race.
Speaking to media, at Sepang ahead of the Malaysian Grand Prix weekend, Hamilton said, "I'm going to take it one race at a time and see how it goes. I like to take it one race at a time because there are no expectations, and I don't have any expectations to be honest, except trying to improve on the last races."
"If you set yourself targets and limitations and you don't meet them or you exceed them then there's different feelings. As a driver I will see how far I can push it this weekend and see if I can get a great result and do everything I can to build up to that.
"It is down to an individual as to how you like to approach it. Some like to write all the details down and it's just whatever works best for you. For me, there is nothing I can do about next week whereas there is something I can do about tomorrow and the next few days, so that's why I take it that way."
Hamilton's Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg leads the world championship title race by eight points with six rounds remaining, the German having dominated the early part of the season, before Hamilton took command until the summer break.
But now the pendulum has now swung back in Rosberg's favour, but Hamilton says the role of the hunter or the hunted makes no difference to how he will approach the remaining races.
"I think it's a very personal thing and it's probably different for each driver. I've led championships and perhaps when you are in the lead it can be more positive but the downfall can be bigger, maybe when you are behind you have less to lose so the hunt is more exciting."
"I don't find it harder in either scenario, I enjoy it all," insisted the triple F1 world champion who is chasing his 50th grand prix victory this weekend.
