Goodwood Festival of Speed Saturday cancelled

The Goodwood Festival of Speed (FOS) is not happening today, the first time in its 30-year that the popular and iconic motorsport event's second day has been cancelled due to winds and rains that have plagued the area this weekend.

According to reports the UK's Met Office put a Yellow Weather Warning in place covering the south of England due to unpredictable high wind speeds, which are likely to be around 40mph (65 kph) and reach between 50 (80 kph)and 55mph (88kph) in areas on Saturday.
Goodwood FoS organisers released the following statement: “It is with deep regret that we have taken the decision that the Goodwood Festival of Speed will not go ahead tomorrow (Saturday 15 July 2023). After consulting meteorologists, health and safety experts and other key stakeholders, we have taken the decision to close the event site due to a severe wind warning in the Goodwood area.
“On-site safety is our highest priority and the forecasted high winds will pose a serious risk to various temporary structures across the site. We politely ask that you do not travel to Goodwood or attempt to access the site.
“This decision has not been made lightly and His Grace, The Duke of Richmond, along with the whole Festival of Speed team, are deeply saddened that we will not run the event on Saturday for the first time in its 30-year history. The event will resume as planned on Sunday.”
The Goodwood FoS is a haven for motorsport aficionados, Formula 1 cars from all eras feature on a bill packed with the greatest road cars and race cars on the planet.
The fifth 5 July, Saturday at Goodwood cancelled, the schedule looked like this:
  • Gates open – 7am
  • Batch 2: Le Mans, Nascar, sports racers – 8.30am
  • Batch 6a: supercar run – 9.10am
  • Batch 6b: first glance and road bikes – 9.50am
  • Action Sports warm-up show – 10am
  • Batch 1: Ken Block moment, tin tops, drift, rally and WRC – 10.20am
  • Porsche “Art of Dreams” moment – 10.30am
  • Batch 5: Porsche 75 – 11am
  • Porsche 75 celebration moment – 11.40am
  • Qualifying shoot-out – 11.45am
  • Batch 4: Lotus moment, McLaren, GP greats, MotoGP and Jeff Beck cars – 12.35pm
  • Action Sports show – 1.30pm
  • Batch 5: Porsche 75 – 1.30pm
  • Batch 3: Goodwood 75 – 2.30pm
  • Balcony moment: interview with Sebastian Vettel – 2.45pm
  • Batch 2: Le Mans, Nascar, sports racers – 2.55pm
  • Goodwood Action Sports show – 3.15pm
  • Batch 4: McLaren moment, Lotus, GP greats and MotoGP – 3.35pm
