Pierre Gasly has made clear that Formula 1’s midfield is not where he intends to remain, insisting his future at Alpine F1 team is tied to the team’s long-term project rather than short-term frustrations.
Gasly has taken on greater responsibility at Enstone since Esteban Ocon’s departure, leading the team alongside
rookies Jack Doohan early in the season and
Franco Colapinto since the return to Europe.
The Frenchman explained: “Yes, I think it's about being more aware of a lot of things. I've always had the speed. Then you need consistency, you need the team to work, you need to work for the team but also for the team to work for you. And by both having that kind of mentality, you get more out of the team and yourself. So yes, I have to say I'm happy to have more responsibility in the team, more leadership.”
Gasly said having two inexperienced teammates has given him more influence on the direction of development: “Obviously, with Jack and Franco, it gives me more leverage, which I appreciate, and also the team, we are all driving in the direction that suits me to perform and get the most out of the car.”
While Alpine continue to struggle at the wrong end of the midfield, Gasly underlined that his motivation goes beyond weekend results: “I have to say I'm happy with my collaboration with the team.
"I'm very competitive, and regardless of the car's performance, you could say it's sometimes frustrating because obviously I'm not in F1 to fight for 15th or 10th place," declared the Frenchman.
Gasly: I believe in this project
Gasly always accepted that 2025 will be sacrificed as Alpine redirect resources towards the 2026 rules reset, but he remains convinced that progress will come. “Ultimately, I'm part of the team for a longer-term project.
"I believe in this project. I know where we're going, I know we're making a lot of positive changes. And fortunately, this is just one step on the way, which isn't the most pleasant, but I'm sure we'll come out of it stronger as a team.”
Gasly backed the management’s strategic shift: “Many of the things we are building, challenging in our work, changing, I am sure, will bear fruit in the future. We now have the car we've had since Barcelona.
"We can't suddenly expect to perform a miracle with what we have, and we knew that when we decided to adopt this strategy for 2026," declared Gasly, now in his ninth season in Formula 1.
The French 29-year-old has scored 20 points and lies P14 in the
2025 Formula 1 Drivers' Championship. But Alpine, with only Gasly scoring lies P10 and last in the Constructors' standings with ten rounds remaining.
