Ferrari head into this weekend's 2023 Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, after a tough Formula 1 weekend in Monaco, adamant of a better performance with further upgrades on their SF-23.

Ferrari finished sixth and eighth in Monaco with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz respectively, the former having yet again a disappointing race in front of his home crowds, missing out on pole by a tenth, then losing his third-place qualifying position for impeding McLaren's Lando Norris in Q3 of Qualifying, after his team failed to inform him the #4 McLaren was on a hot lap behind him.
Sainz, on the other hand had a frustrating race, unable to make advances, and ending up fighting and bickering with the Ferrari pit wall over pit stops and strategies, as both Scuderia drivers expressed their dissatisfaction with the performance of their SF-23.
Ferrari brought car upgrades to Monaco and will do the same for Barcelona according the their Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur, insisting the Spanish venue will give a better indication of the Red single seater's performance.
"Just a few days on from the race in Monaco we are back on track in Barcelona for Carlos’ home race, the Spanish Grand Prix," Vasseur said in Ferrari's race preview.
"It means that for the second race in a row, one of our drivers can count on support from his fans, a further incentive for the whole team to do well on one of the best known circuits on the calendar," he added.

Barcelona to show real potential of the SF-23

"In Monaco we couldn’t show the real potential of our car, but the race in Barcelona will provide a clearer picture, also because we have brought some further upgrades here, just as we have done at every race so far this season.
"We expect to make some progress in terms of performance and we hope to bring home a good result for the team," the Frenchman concluded.
Sainz will have a part of he circuit dedicated to his fans where the Grada CS55 grandstand will be located, he commented: "I really enjoy having the Grada CS55 in Barcelona.
"The Spanish fans are extremely special for me and I’m incredibly happy to have a dedicated grandstand for them. If anything, it is too small! But I know there are many fans on other grandstands also cheering me on.
"It’s difficult to explain what it feels like to race in F1 at home. I simply love it and I hope we can put on a good show and get a good result. They can be sure I will giving my absolute best," he maintained.
Asked about the revisions to the track in 2023, when the chicane is the last sector is removed; the Spaniard said: "I think it’s a good idea and it will be fun to race with this new layout in sector 3.
"There was nothing really wrong with the chicane, but it’s good to try a different approach and see how it affects lap times and the race. I’m looking forward to it," Sainz concluded.
