A feature documentary charting the career and current work of Aston Martin Team Principal and design boss, Adrian Newey, is in development.
The Whisper Group and Mark Stewart Productions are partnering Artists Equity on the film that will be focused on, Newey, one of
Formula 1’s most influential designers.
The project, currently titled Turbulence: The Greatest Mind in Formula One, will follow Newey as he works to push the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team into championship contention. The title is described as a working moniker and may change ahead of release. The documentary is being produced in collaboration with Aston Martin Aramco and Formula 1.
Newey joined Aston Martin Aramco at the start of 2025 after a long and highly successful tenure at Red Bull, a move that surprised much of the paddock and reshaped the competitive narrative heading into the sport’s next regulatory cycle.
Ben Affleck, chief executive officer of Artists Equity, said the film extends beyond motorsport success alone, describing it as a portrait of a unique competitive figure and mindset. He said in a statement that the documentary “is about so much more than just racing, it’s about a living legend whose unrivaled career is full of ambition and reinvention.”

The numbers are mind boggling!
Newey’s record places him among the most decorated technical figures in the history of the sport. Cars designed under his leadership have secured 12 Constructors’ Championships and 14 Drivers’ Championships across multiple eras, spanning teams including Williams, McLaren and Red Bull. His work has been central to defining entire generations of Formula 1 machinery, from the active suspension era through to the current ground effect regulations.
The film will place particular emphasis on Newey’s transition to Aston Martin Aramco and the challenge of joining a new organization during a pivotal technical period for the championship. Formula 1 is preparing for what is widely regarded as the most significant regulation change in its modern history, with new power unit and chassis rules coming into force in 2026.
Newey said the documentary aims to capture the intellectual and psychological demands of competing at the highest level of the sport.
“Hopefully this film can portray the passion, the working practice, the strength of mind that is involved in bringing an F1 car to the grid,” he said. “The film charts the challenges I have faced in joining a new team in early March to prepare for what is arguably the biggest regulation change in F1 history.
"It also delves into the story behind my career up to this point and how it has helped to prepare me for this enormous challenge. It’s been a wild ride so far, but F1 never stands still.”
Big names involved in the project
The production brings together several established names in sport and documentary storytelling. Turbulence will be executive produced by Affleck and Artists Equity co founder Matt Damon, alongside Kyle Wheeler, the company’s head of unscripted.
Additional executive producers include Brian Venturo and Stephen O’Connor, Drew Masters, Chris Grubb, Sunil Patel and Emma Everitt for Whisper, with Mark Stewart representing Mark Stewart Productions.
The film will be executive produced and directed by Patrick Mark and Michael Tolajian, continuing Whisper’s involvement in high profile Formula 1 and elite sport projects. The company has previously built a strong reputation for access driven storytelling across global sporting properties.
Artists Equity was founded in 2022 by Affleck, Damon and RedBird Capital founder Gerry Cardinale, with a business model focused on creator led production and more equitable profit participation. The company’s recent releases include Air, which explored the origins of Nike’s partnership with Michael Jordan, The Instigators starring Damon and Casey Affleck, and The Accountant 2 featuring Affleck, Jon Bernthal and Cynthia Addai Robinson.
While no release date has been confirmed, the documentary is expected to arrive during a period of heightened interest in Formula 1’s technical reset and Aston Martin Aramco’s ambitions under new leadership. With unprecedented access promised to Newey’s
working methods and mindset, the project is positioned as both a career retrospective and a real time chronicle of one of the sport’s most consequential transitions.
As Formula 1 accelerates toward a new era, the film aims to frame Newey not only as a historical figure, but as an active force shaping what comes next.
