Honda has confirmed that it will officially unveil its 2026 Formula 1 power unit at a dedicated launch event in Tokyo on January 20, 2026.
The event will mark the Japanese manufacturer’s return to the sport under the dramatically revised technical regulations as they enter a new partnership with Aston Martin after concluding their relationship with Red Bull Racing after the
2025 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The 2026 regulations introduce a fundamental shift in power unit philosophy, with an equal split between internal combustion and electrical energy. Honda confirmed that the launch event will outline both the technical direction and the broader ambition behind its renewed
Formula 1 programme.
“This is the Japanese marque’s first power unit under the dramatically reformed regulations which sees 50% internal combustion power and 50% electric power,” Honda said in a statement. “At this event, we will share the aspirations of Honda and Aston Martin Aramco Formula One™ Team as we take on the challenge of competing in F1, the pinnacle of motorsport.
"We will also explain the new regulations and reveal our new power unit for the upcoming season.”
After
releasing a sound clip of the 2026 F1 power unit, the launch will serve as the first public presentation of Honda’s unit, developed in response to Formula 1’s push for greater electrical deployment and long term sustainability.
Honda also framed the project as a significant historical milestone for the company, and said: “2026 marks the start of Honda’s new era in F1, having first entered in 1964.
"Since then, Honda has established itself as one of the most successful power unit manufacturers in the sport’s history,” the company added.
The reveal will provide the first concrete insight into Honda’s technical direction ahead of the 2026 season, when the new power unit regulations come into force across the grid.
