Charles Leclerc revealed that Ferrari are having an upgrade on their SF-24 for this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix, and is optimistic about its impact.
After losing their way with development midseason, Ferrari seem to have improved, with a win at Monza for Leclerc, who followed that with pole in
Azerbaijan last weekend only to finish second behind McLaren's Oscar Piastri.
Heading to Singapore this weekend, a venue Ferrari have usually excelled at, Leclerc is hoping the upgrade package the team are bringing will keep their momentum going.
However, and despite being within touching distance of Red Bull in the
Formula 1 constructors' championship (30 points), with McLaren 20 points further ahead in the lead, Leclerc insisted Ferrari are not thinking about the championship.
"Not at all! We don’t think of it at all. We are just focusing race by race, trying to maximize the potential of the car every race that we do," Leclerc said when asked if Ferrari are targeting the constructors' title.
"We are doing that pretty well since the summer break, so we need to keep on that trend. The season is still long, we still have three Sprint races, so a lot of points available for everybody. We cannot relax and start to think about what happens if we do that or this," he added.
The Monegasque hailed the job Ferrari did to turn their season around, bouncing back from their failed midseason upgrades.
He said: "We are doing a good job. We are bringing a small upgrade this weekend, which I hope will help us for the rest of the season, and now obviously we are going to try and take Mercedes and Red Bull.
"But it’s not by focusing on the title or the end result that [we] will go anywhere. We just have to focus on the process, and that’s what we are doing at the moment," the seven-time Grand Prix winner concluded.
Ferrari back on the pace
Carlos Sainz, on the other hand, has fond memories of Singapore after his famous win at the Marina Bay Circuit in 2023, fending off Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton with a masterful and tactical drive.
He also has a good feeling about Ferrari's current form; he commented: "The good and positive thing is we are within reach.
"We’re within reach even after a very difficult middle part of the season where we got it wrong with our upgrades and we didn’t develop well enough.
"Now it seems like we’re back in the pace, but to be definitely sure we need to go to circuits where Ferrari hasn’t been that strong in the past, like Austin, Sao Paulo, or things like that.
"I do believe we can be quick around Singapore, even Las Vegas, [but] I think to realize if we’re going to be able to fight for the World Championship, we need to wait until the other ones," Sainz concluded.
