Since his appointment as Ferrari CEO, in the wake or Sergio Marchionne's passing, Louis Camilleri has kept a low profile but it appears he has been keeping a close eye on discussions regarding the future of Formula 1.
In July this year, Camilleri was dropped into the deep end at Maranello in the wake of Marchionne's untimely death and from the outset has insisted that the day-to-day running of the Scuderia remains his the responsibility of Maurizio Arrivabene.
Speaking during the Capital Markets Day at Maranello, Camilleri summed up the status quo with regards to the future of the sport at the highest level, "Discussions are underway regarding technical regulations, as well as all financial aspects and governance under the umbrella of the new Concorde Agreement."
"We believe there is a basic consensus on the principal objectives that will define the future roadmap, but a precise vision on how to get there is still quite far away. Progress has been made but we are still far from an agreement that includes everything and can be signed by all the stakeholders."
"I remain optimistic that an agreement will be reached on time, but I would like to add that as Ferrari we continue to insist that this can not be to the detriment of the assurance that the F1 remains at the pinnacle of motorsport technically and as a championship.
"There are obvious conflicts of interest. Liberty wants to make more money and the teams want to make more money, we are all waiting to see what happens."
"Ferrari want to keep F1 as it is and indeed improve it all the time. I do not know how all these elements will be mixed, but I am hopeful that we will find an agreement," insisted Camilleri.
