Fernando Alonso has rolled out of his first official off-road race when he crashed and reportedly rolled his Toyota with Dakar legend co-driver Marc Coma in the car with him - neither were hurt.
Radio
reporter Fritz Klaaste covering the Lichtenburg 400 in South Africa reported on his Twitter: "Just to confirm Alonso and Coma were sent off third as reported, but they rolled the car on to its side somewhere. They lost quite some time, as they passed the first spectator point in 11th. They are currently 19th, probably with some damage."
He added: "We can confirm that Alonso/Coma is driving without windscreen after their car rolled. Teams are preparing to fix the cars. Tools and parts are packed out as needed."
Later he reported: "Alonso/Coma car done, ready to go into parc ferme. They are leaving before the official start of Loop 2. They leave in 25minutes from now. Their race is a purely development race. Alonso in good spirits, making jokes and crowd laughs like in stand up comedy."
