Valtteri Bottas shrugged off questions about his pit lane spin during FP2 for the Styrian Grand Prix, stating that it was a "normal mistake" after Mercedes had "tried something different".
The Finn endured a tough session as he could only manage to go 12th fastest, with the error costing Bottas a three-place grid penalty following an investigation by the race stewards.
Bottas had set the best times in sector one and two during FP1, but failed to make the sort of progress he would have wanted during the afternoon session at a circuit where he claimed victory last season.
Speaking after FP2 though, Bottas appeared unphased by the slightly embarrassing moment.
"We tried something different getting out from the box and there were some variables to what we normally do with the wheelspin, so that's why I spun," he said.
"I would be surprised [if the stewards took action]. It's a normal mistake, it happens. I'm sure they want to understand what happened."
Romain Grosjean was the last driver to suffer such a fate during the 2019 British Grand Prix weekend, with the now IndyCar driver losing the front wing of his Haas in the process.
On this occasion, Bottas and his strewn W12 were helped back to the pits by McLaren team members with no damage.
