While many have questioned the wisdom of Ferrari hiring two relatively young drivers, without Formula 1 World Championship winning pedigree, team boss Mattia Binotto is steadfast in the belief the Reds have the best driver pairing on the grid.
Binotto is convinced that
Charles Leclerc and
Carlos Sainz are the real deal and capable of leading the Scuderia to glory. If that glory means winning, then they are long overdue a victory which they last scored at 2019 Singapore Grand Prix with Sebastian Vettel.
Speaking to the
official F1 website, Binotto said he is satisfied: “I’m very happy for many reasons. The first is that I think we’ve got the best line-up of the entire pit lane.
“The second, because we know Charles is a fantastic driver, very talented, but he still continues improving and I’m pretty happy with that, he’s got great opportunities for a win, the first was in Monaco but for reasons we know it didn’t happen.
“And then the other side. I think that Carlos is integrating very well. He’s improving race by race, he’s somehow a great, let me say, the benchmark for Charles as well, pushing him when conditions are more difficult, and I think... 80 points each.
"It shows how important it is to have two good drivers scoring points for the constructor, I’m very happy with that and looking forward. I think those two guys will give us great satisfaction,” predicted Binotto.
Currently Ferrari, the sport's most successful team, are third in the 2021 constructors' standings, with Sainz on 83 points in sixth, with Leclerc three points shy of his teammate in seventh.
