Mick Schumacher was one of seven Ferrari Driver Academy students presented to the media at a get together in Maranello, the first since the announcement was made last week and also the occasion of Mattia Binotto's first official function since taking over as team principal.
Binotto was present along with Sporting Director, Laurent Mekies, and Marco Matassa, the technical head of the FDA who welcomed Mick along with the other FDA youngsters.
The team said in a press release: "Management and drivers then posed for a photo with ‘older brother’ Antonio Fuoco, who is staying in the FDA orbit with a consulting role. Marcus Armstrong was away in New Zealand in the Toyota Racing Series."
"The Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA), the programme for talented young drivers, gathered its students at its Maranello HQ for its first day of work in 2019. New arrival Mick Schumacher was among them, just back from the Race of Champions in Mexico City."
"FDA drivers are expecting a year packed with challenges: Mick Schumacher will be involved in Formula 2 along with his two teammates Callum Ilott and Giuliano Alesi; Marcus Armstrong and Robert Shwartzman will compete in the FIA Formula 3 championship; Enzo Fittipaldi in the newly minted Formula Regional and Gianluca Petecof in the FIA Formula 4 championship."
As reigning European Formula 3 Champion, 19-year-old Schumacher is top of the FDA pecking order and is likely to pick up an F1 test or two as early as this year.
Even an FP1 programme could happen, with Haas or Sauber, later in the season depending on the outcome of his F2 rookie season.
Mekies is expected to slot in as Binotto's right-hand man as the pair head the Italian team's post-Maurizio Arrivabene era with Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc spearheading the 2019 campaign.
