Following the Bahrain Grand Prix, many Formula 1 fans were accepting of the fact that Red Bull was poised to dominate the upcoming seasons. However, a few months later, the landscape has shifted dramatically.
Talks within the industry suggest that Red Bull's dominance might be driving fans away from the sport. The man responsible: Newey.
“The on-track predictability of the championship with Red Bull’s dominance will surely become a reason to lose this newly joined fan base as well as the existing fan base in the near future.
If this trend continues in the sport, only fewer people will buy tickets to attend races and the fan engagement through Television, social media and radio will also reduce, causing reason to lose the interest of sponsors of towards the sport. This will surely hurt the financial status of the sport” it stated.
This perception is one that many have, and has led many of Red Bull's rivals to push for a shake-up, including the poaching and approaching of Red Bull’s top-level employees. Notably, Aston Martin has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to sign Adrian Newey.
The F1 tech genius is set to leave Red Bull in early 2025, and his impending availability has put the sport’s top teams on high alert.

While Ferrari has long been rumoured as his likeliest destination, Aston Martin has made significant strides in the race for his signature.
According to sources, Newey has held talks with Lawrence Stroll, Aston Martin’s billionaire owner. He was also given a private tour of Aston Martin’s Silverstone facility, a visit the team hoped to keep 'secret'.
Newey will be free to join a new employer next year, providing ample time to oversee the development of their 2026 car.
With new F1 regulations coming into effect in 2026, any team securing Newey's expertise would gain a substantial advantage heading into this new era.
Despite Red Bull’s RB20, the brainchild of Newey and his team, leading the pack into this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix, the season has not been without controversy. Max Verstappen may be on track for his fourth consecutive title, but the furore surrounding Christian Horner marred the early part of the year.
Newey's confirmed departure has given Red Bull's rivals hope that they might recruit one of the most esteemed minds in F1.
