Red Bull junior driver Arvid Lindblad took a step closer towards making his Formula 1 debut by testing a 2023 AlphaTauri car at Imola on Monday.

The 17-year-old Lindblad has been issued a Super License after the FIA approved an exemption filed by Red Bull Racing, which the governing body approved during its latest World Motorsport Council meeting in Macau two weeks ago.
Red Bull Racing's junior team, Racing Bulls, gave Lindblad a shot at driving their AT04, the car they competed in the 2023 F1 season with when they were still named AlphaTauri.
It is not the first test for Lindblad in F1 machinery, as he has already completed a filming day back in February. He shared Monday's test with Racing Bulls junior Ayumu Iwasa.
Lindblad drove in the morning, and while he had two spins at the Variante Alta chicane, his test was otherwise smooth as Iwasa took over for the afternoon.
Red Bull has pushed to get Lindblad into FP1 sessions in 2025, and that has come after struggles on the driver front since Sergio Perez was shown the door at the end of the 2024 F1 season.
Liam Lawson was demoted to the Racing Bulls after only two races in 2025, while Yuki Tsunoda is struggling alongside Max Verstappen since jumping in the RB21 at his home Japanese Grand Prix.
Verstappen's future at Red Bull has been in question since the start of the current F1 season, with reports linking him to Mercedes and Aston Martin.
The Dutchman is only one point away from a race ban after banging wheels with Mercedes' George Russell at the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix.
Lindblad is tipped to be the next big talent coming through the ranks of the Red Bull junior racing driver program. He is currently competing in Formula 2 and is third in the championship with two wins: A Feature Race and a Sprint Race.
