Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene is confident that Sebastian Vettel will put a plug to his foul mouthed radio messages in the wake of his expletive packed radio rant during the closing stages of the Mexican Grand Prix.
The German swore at race director Charlie Whiting (report here>>>) and had a good go at Red Bull's tactics while he battled it out wheel-to-wheel with Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.
Arrivabene explained to reporters, on Sunday evening, at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, “He gave his excuses to Charlie and we talked together, Sebastian and I, and that’s it."
“He apologised and I am sure it is not going to happen again. By the way, you look at what happen and sometimes I am expecting a reaction more quickly from the FIA.”
There was more action after the race in the FIA stewards' room than on track all afternoon. First Verstappen was penalised five seconds for cutting across the grass during his duel with Vettel.
This promoted Vettel to third and indeed he celebrated, only to be penalised ten seconds for his defensive driving tactics not long after he sprayed champagne during the ceremony ion the podium.
Arrivabene did not mince his words in a statement afterwards, “We fully deserved this podium, which was taken away by bureaucracy. The whole team had showed great stamina by staying united and focused in a difficult moment.
“Our strategy had made it possible to make good progress through the race and both drivers did a very good job.
“Unfortunately, we were penalised by the stewards’ unappealable decision which, in my opinion, is too harsh and somehow unfair,” added the Ferrari team chief.
