Fernando Alonso appeared chirpier and less upset than expected after only managing to qualify 17th for the Belgian Grand Prix as his McLaren was found wanting around the challenging Spa-Francorchamps circuit, explaining that is where he expected to be.
After being eliminated in Q1, Alonso was asked by reporters if he was frustrated by the result, to which he replied, "It's not frustrating, this is the place we belong to be. This is what we expect here."
"The lap was enjoyable. Driving these cars on this circuit is always very special because they feel fast and grippy, everything feels good and then you cross the line and there are 16 cars in front of you."
“We’ve lost a bit of performance in recent races, but on top of that we knew Spa would be quite a difficult race for our package in terms of performance, and so will Monza," added Alonso with reference to next weekend's Italian Grand Prix.
As for the race he said, “We try to score points in every difficult situation so why can’t we score points again tomorrow? We need something special to happen, so maybe there is some rain coming that will give us a chance.”
