Derek Warwick has officially returned to his role as an FIA Formula 1 steward at this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, marking his full reinstatement following a period of absence earlier this season.

Warwick, a former Formula 1 driver and long-time FIA steward, had been absent since he was dropped by F1's governing body for Canada, citing "unauthorised media comments" for the axing. However, sources close to the matter confirmed the absences were unrelated to his earlier suspension.
The FIA made his return official with Thursday’s publication of the Hungarian GP steward panel, listing Warwick among the four stewards for the event alongside Felix Holter, Matthew Selley, and Istvan Moni. No public statement was made about the circumstances of his reinstatement, but the tone has notably softened within the paddock.
In the wake of the suspension, at Red Bull Ring, Warwick received support from key F1 figures, including Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle, who publicly backed the veteran official during his return: "Derek Warwick is one of the most genuine and passionate people and racers I have ever known.
"He is a salt-of-the-earth, genuine guy. He’s done so much for young racers and motorsport in general. Not least as an FIA Steward. He has my absolute support and friendship until my last breath," said Brundle, former F1 driver turned Sky F1 pundit.
While the FIA has kept internal disciplinary matters private, Warwick’s inclusion this weekend on the F1 Stewards panel suggests that the issue is resolved. The governing body has made no comment beyond the official documentation.
Warwick has served as an FIA steward for over a decade and is one of the most experienced former drivers in the role, having presided over numerous contentious decisions during his tenure. His return to stewarding in Hungary signals a reset and a quiet but clear message that the incident that briefly sidelined him is now in the past.
