Alex Albon insisted Williams need to score as many points as they still can after their best start to a Formula 1 season in years.
Albon is wary of the fact that, while Williams have had a decent car to start the 2025 F1 season with, they will soon have to shift their focus to the 2026 season when new cars with new power units will make their debut.
Williams have scored points in all races in 2025 so far, barring Bahrain, and Albon has been the major contributor as Carlos Sainz continued to get up to speed in his new environment, the Spaniard making progress in qualifying in the most recent
Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, where he outqualified and outraced his teammate for the first time.
Sainz was expected to start beating Albon from the start given the reputation he carried coming to Williams, but the latter has been impressive since joining Williams and made that tougher for the former Ferrari driver.
Albon said: "I want to be realistic. I think I've always been consistent—if I'm being totally honest and possibly egotistical about it.
"I think our car's always been quite peaky, and I've always felt that my performances have been consistent since I've joined Williams.
"It's maybe being highlighted now that we have a consistent car every weekend; I can do consistent performances. That's what it feels like to me," he maintained.
Williams have to be realistic
And while Albon is enjoying the current run of form in his Williams, he admitted that soon the team had to shift focus to 2026, while other teams may continue to upgrade their cars based on the development strategy every team might choose.
"We have to be quite realistic," the Thai driver warned. "We don't know what everyone's doing in terms of priority for next year.
"We've gone off to a hot start, which kind of changes the dynamic of how well we want to do this season or sacrifice next season.
"We want to make a big step for next year," he added. "Now is the time to score points, really. With a good start, we have to score points every weekend.
"We don't know when the next midfield team is going to bring an upgrade, and when they do, that could be our run over," Albon concluded.
Williams are currently fifth in the 2025 F1 constructors' championship with 25 points. Haas is five points behind in sixth. Ferrari, on the other hand, is 23 points ahead in fourth. (Reporting by Agnes Carlier)
