Adrian Newey confirms Aston Martin management "tweaks", "can't comment" on Christian Horner speculation

Horner, one of the most successful team principals in Formula 1, led Red Bull Racing from the very beginning in 2005 and delivered six Constructors' Championships and eight Drivers' Titles during his time at the helm.

However, he was let go in 2025 following that season's British Grand Prix, following a tough run for the team with the rot actually starting a year earlier due to his sexting scandal—of which he was cleared—that started the decline of the team with civil wars erupting that ended with figures like Newey leaving while Helmut Marko was "retired" at the end of 2025.

Aston Martin have gone through several management changes as well, with Mike Krack demoted from the team principal role early in 2025, with former Mercedes engine boss Andy Cowell taking over in addition to his CEO duties.

The Newey, who joined in March of 2025 as a shareholder and technical boss, took over the team principal job with Cowell shifting to a chief strategy officer role to manage the team's partnerships.

Horner has been linked to Aston Martin as well as Ferrari and Alpine. He is now being tipped to lead Chinese carmaker BYD's potential Formula 1 project, but when asked about these rumors in Budapest on Friday, Newey said: "I keep hearing about these rumors ​of Christian. I can't comment further.

"I don't know anything about that. All I can say is that we're very happy with our senior management team. And we may do some minor ​tweaks, but the ​personnel we ⁠have at AMR (Aston Martin Racing), we are very happy with that," he added.

Jonathan Wheatley, who left his job as Sporting Director with Red Bull Racing back in 2024 and joined Audi as their Team Principal, soon after left Audi in 2026 and is under gardening leave.

He is reportedly set to join Aston Martin as soon as he legally can, which is most probably 2027 unless Audi and Aston Martin can reach an agreement before that. (Reporting by Agnes Carlier from the Hungaroring)
