Ferrari may be in for a livery tweak in 2019, with a hint of what to expect provided by this year's Ducati MotoGP bikes which were made public at a launch function earlier this month
Andrea Dovizioso and Danilo Petrucci unveiled the brand-new Ferrari-red Desmosedici GP19 machine with prominence given to the mysterious Mission Winnow sponsorship on the Scuderia's cars for the forthcoming Formula 1 season.
For the privilege of placing stickers on the next year's cars Philip Morris (aka Marlboro) will fork out an alleged $100-million per year.
Marlboro branding first appeared on Ferrari in F1 in 1984, and since then the long-standing partnership has morphed from overt Marlboro branding on the red cars, to a blank chevron, to the famous barcode logo before disappearing as tobacco sponsorship was banned.
Now Marlboro has activated the Mission Winnow brand which is expected to feature more prominently on this year's Ferrari. Last year, when the initiative was launched, the Mission Winnow logo appeared on the rear-wing Ferrari SF71H from the Japanese Grand Prix onward.
As on the Ducati, the Ferrari livery is expected to have the Mission Winnow logo prominent on the deep red cars with white piping, harking back to the 312T4 raced by Gilles Villeneuve and Jody Scheckter during the 1979 season.
In closing and as a matter of interest, what are Mission Winnow selling? This:
"Mission Winnow has a simple goal: drive change by constantly searching for better ways of doing things. And by committing to learning and knowing more, it’s easier to make choices that improve the future for everyone. To make this happen, we’ll get inside the minds of outstanding innovators and change-makers, to see why and how they achieve excellence."
"From world-leading engineers and scientists to cutting-edge creatives, the people at PMI, and our partners at Scuderia Ferrari and Ducati, have the know-how to challenge the status quo, drive revolutionary change and to be champions. They have devoted their lives to finding a better way, and their stories of endeavour and success are inspiring."
"You’ll see innovative solutions to long-standing problems and brand-new initiatives that kick-start advances into unchartered territory. Every one of these is focused on making a positive impact on people and organizations."
Good to know, now it's crystal clear!
