Jenson Button believes Max Verstappen is the “most rounded F1 driver there has ever been,” insisting the Dutchman can extract more performance from a car than anyone else, including "extreme talent" Lewis Hamilton.

Speaking on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X, 2009 Formula 1 World Champion, Button, reflected on Verstappen’s evolution since debuting in 2015. The Englishman was also Hamilton's teammate at McLaren.
Despite a more challenging 2025 season that sees Verstaoppen third in the standings - 69 points behind leader Oscar Piastri and 61 behind Lando Norris - Button maintained: “I feel he's the most rounded F1 driver that there has ever been.”
Button continued: “I know Max hasn't won the championships of Lewis. And I obviously think Lewis is extremely, extremely good... but there's just something about Max that he can do something with a car that I don't think anyone else can.”
Button also praised Norris and Piastri: “They're very different personalities. I think Lando can be his own worst enemy. He's unbelievably quick, but if he makes a tiny mistake… I think he thinks about it too much. Oscar is very level-headed… and he does it very well.”
As for Hamilton, his former McLaren teammate, Button was equally complimentary: “The natural ability he has is unbelievable. He would struggle in practice, then come to qualifying and just, bang, put in a lap. It came from nowhere.”
“But just thinking about this moment in time feel that Max is the one who can do more with a car than anyone else,” Button concluded.
