Former Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil was arrested after investigators conducted coordinated raids across Monaco, Switzerland, and Germany on Thursday.

According to Bild, 42-year-old Sutil was taken into custody in Sindelfingen after authorities executed an arrest warrant connected to an investigation into suspected large-scale fraud and embezzlement.
A spokesperson for the Stuttgart public prosecutor confirmed the cross-border operation and said: “Several properties were searched jointly with the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office.”
The spokesperson added that an arrest warrant for Sutil had been issued before the raid. Following his arrest, he was brought before the Stuttgart District Court, where a judge executed the warrant.
The investigating authorities have not given details of the specific accusations. They confirmed only that Sutil is suspected of “joint fraud in a particularly serious case and joint embezzlement”. The nature of the alleged offences, the financial scale, and the parties involved have not yet been disclosed.
Sutil has spent recent years involved in trading luxury cars. He previously lived in the courtyard of a castle in the Swiss canton of Solothurn, where he was based until about ten years ago. The raids carried out on Thursday included addresses in Monaco and Switzerland linked to his activities.

Sutil is no stranger to legal troubles

This is not the first time the former Force India driver has faced legal trouble. In 2012, he was convicted of causing bodily harm after an incident in a Shanghai nightclub involving Lotus executive Eric Lux. During an argument, Sutil struck Lux on the neck with a broken champagne glass. He received an eighteen-month suspended sentence. Lux later told Bild that he had forgiven Sutil for the attack.
The report suggests, Sutil’s arrest marks the start of what appears to be a major international investigation. Authorities in Germany, Switzerland, and Monaco continue to gather evidence. Further details are expected once prosecutors complete the initial phase of inquiry.
Sutil competed in 128 Formula 1 Grands Prix from 2007 to 2014, scoring 124 points. He debuted with Spyker in 2007, then spent six seasons with Force India (2008–2011, 2013–2014), achieving his best results there: a stunning fourth at the 2009 Italian GP, ninth in the 2011 championship (42 points) and a career-high fifth in qualifying at Monaco 2013.
Known for consistency and strong wet-weather performances, his single season at Sauber in 2014 yielded no points. Best race finish: 4th (once). Never drove for a top team, Sutil retired from F1 after 2014 and later raced in GT and touring cars.
