Pirelli has unveiled its full 2026 Formula 1 tyre range at Yas Marina on Tuesday, revealing a redesigned sidewall identity and a revised family of compounds that will shape the next rules era.

The announcement came during a group test involving all teams following the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with official drivers running the new tyres on mule cars to validate construction, performance and operating windows ahead of homologation on December 15.
Pirelli has reworked its visual branding for the first time since 2011, when it returned as exclusive supplier. The sidewalls now feature a chequered flag logo integrated into the traditional P Zero markings, creating a new look intended to set the Formula 1 product apart from every other motorsport and road tyre in the company’s portfolio. The firm said the design preserves the historic language that defines the Milan-based brand while presenting a cleaner and more modern aesthetic for the 2026 grid.
The colour system remains unchanged. White continues to denote the Hard compound, yellow the Medium and red the Soft, while green and blue identify the Intermediate and Full wet options. Pirelli believes this continuity will avoid confusion during a year of major regulation change, with the new cars debuting at the Barcelona test from January 26 to 30.

Five compound family with wider performance gaps

The 2026 P Zero range is again built around five compounds from C1 to C5, running from hardest to softest. Pirelli said performance sits close to current levels, but each step between compounds is now wider and more consistent to encourage strategic variation during grands prix. The Intermediate and Full wet patterns are unchanged from 2025 as the company focuses development time on the slick family for the new generation of lighter and more aerodynamically efficient cars.
Those cars have dictated new tyre dimensions. The wheel rim diameter stays at 18 inches, but the tread width reduces by 25mm at the front and 30mm at the rear. Total diameter also drops by 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear, aligning the tyres with the expected aerodynamic and mechanical profile of the 2026 chassis. Teams have been evaluating the impact of these changes on balance, braking stability and warm-up during the ongoing Yas Marina running.
Pirelli considers these dimensional revisions essential for the forthcoming power unit and aero package, which both prioritise efficiency. The smaller footprint is expected to reduce drag and rotational inertia without compromising durability targets. Engineers are focusing on keeping thermal degradation stable while accommodating the reduced contact patch.

Mule car running continues ahead of December 15 homologation

Each team supplied mule machinery configured to approximate the weight, aero load and brake characteristics of the 2026 cars. One or more official race drivers are taking part in the evaluations, with Pirelli gathering final confirmation data before filing for homologation. The company has already conducted laboratory tests, simulation work and private running, but this is the first time all compounds are being sampled together under consistent conditions.
Once homologated, the tyres will be locked for the 2026 season as per the technical regulations. The first official appearance on next year’s cars will come at the Barcelona pre-season test, but Pirelli confirmed that the new look will be visible earlier during winter launches. Several teams are expected to reveal their cars in late January, meaning the redesigned sidewall presentation will form part of the early visual identity of the new rules cycle.
Pirelli said its objective has been to align visual innovation with functional development. While the brand change is the most visible shift for fans, the broader ambition is to provide strategic diversity and stable performance across a season that will begin with entirely fresh machinery. The company reiterated that Hard, Medium and Soft compounds should deliver clearer separation in grip and wear behaviour, giving teams more variables to work with during race weekends.
As teams continue testing through the evening session at Yas Marina, Pirelli’s new tyres have already become one of the most talked-about elements of the 2026 build-up. The Italian supplier enters its fifteenth consecutive season as exclusive partner, and with a fresh logo, new dimensions and an updated compound range, the next chapter of its Formula 1 tenure is already taking shape.
