IndyCar driver and Cadillac Formula 1 Team test driver, Colton Herta, will become a Formula 2 driver in 2026, competing with Hitech.
The announcement comes
after recent reports that Herta is looking to make the move into the top flight with a stint in the feeder series being as a stepping stone.
In a statement on Tuesady, Cadillac announced: "Colton Herta, the team's official Test Driver, will compete for Hitech during his debut FIA Formula 2 Championship season in 2026."
Herta, the youngest ever driver to win a race in IndyCar back in 2019 is a multiple winner in the North American series.
Cadillac would hope the Herta joining Hitech would "allow the Californian to immerse himself in the heart of European single-seater racing" pointing out to his junior career when he competed in British F4, British F3, Spanish F3, and Euroformula Open noting that he has accumulated a total of 10 wins and 11 pole positions.
Cadillac also believe that Herta competing on tracks where F1 races "will provide vital experience on some of the world's most demanding tracks, from Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps to Monza and Silverstone" to the American driver.
Herta: Can't wait to get started

"I'm very grateful to Cadillac and Hitech for their trust and support and I can't wait to get started," Herta concluded.
As for Dan Towriss, CEO of TWG Motorsports and Cadillac Formula 1 Team; he added: "Colton has already shown exceptional talent and professionalism throughout his career.

"We are proud of Colton's commitment to success in European racing, and we look forward to seeing him take on this exciting new challenge with Hitech – a team with a proven history of success in junior categories," Towriss concluded.
