Pierre Gasly committed his long-term future to Alpine, signing a contract extension that keeps him with the French Formula 1 team until the end of the 2028 World Championship season.
The announcement was made today, during the Italian Grand Prix weekend at Monza, and positions Gasly as Alpine’s lead driver through the upcoming regulation change in 2026 and beyond. It also reflects the backing of
Renault Group’s new CEO François Provost and the direction of Flavio Briatore, who returned to lead the team earlier this summer.
Gasly joined Alpine ahead of the 2023 season and has since become a central figure in their project, delivering podium finishes at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix and the 2024 São Paulo Grand Prix while helping the team secure sixth place in last year’s Constructors’ Championship.
Gasly underlined the pride he feels driving for a French manufacturer: “I'm thrilled to commit my long-term future to Alpine.
As a Frenchman, especially, driving for a French car company makes me feel very proud. Since I joined in 2023, I have always felt that this team is the right place to be for the future."
Briatore backs Gasly as lead driver for new era
“Flavio's support and belief in me, François' commitment to the Formula One project, as well as the people we have in Enstone made this a natural decision, and I want to be here in years to come and deliver on our joint objective: to win races and world championships. We're all in this together and I look forward to continuing this special story.”
Team principal Briatore hailed the extension as a key step in Alpine’s rebuilding effort: “Since I returned to the team, I have always stated how important it is to build and grow the competitiveness of BWT Alpine Formula One Team. We're well prepared for the new era of Formula One, beginning in 2026, and now we have our lead driver confirmed to bring us well into the future.
“Pierre has been an immense asset for the team during this challenging period. I have been very impressed with his attitude, dedication and talent and we look forward to continuing this project together for a long time.”
With Gasly secured until 2028, Alpine now has
stability in its driver line-up as it navigates a turbulent phase and works toward becoming a front-running force under the new regulations.
