The Dutch Grand Prix will bid farewell to Formula 1 after the 2026 season, with organisers opting to conclude the event’s run after two more editions.

The decision brings an end to a race that returned to the calendar in 2021 following a 36-year absence. During its recent tenure, Zandvoort has become synonymous with Max Verstappen’s dominance, with the Dutchman securing three consecutive victories from 2021 to 2023. This season’s edition, however, saw McLaren’s Lando Norris take the win.
Dutch Grand Prix director Robert van Overdijk confirmed the decision to NOS, explaining the organisation's rationale: "There were several options on the table to continue. We could rotate with other circuits, and there were also options to continue annually.
"We have made a lot of considerations, and this is the outcome. In the end, it is our choice. Maybe the F1 top is surprised, but they certainly respect and understand us. They know how we have to work, van Overdijk.
The Grand Prix in Holland has been celebrated for its unique atmosphere and commitment to sustainability. The organisers facilitated eco-friendly travel options for fans and introduced entertainment elements that garnered praise globally.
Yet, financial challenges played a key role in the decision to step back. Unlike most races on the F1 calendar, Zandvoort operates without government funding, relying solely on its own financial resources.
Van Overdijk stated: "You might say: if it's successful, you just keep going? But it's a message of strength. We're going out with a bang. Of course, it also gives a melancholic feeling, but we're especially proud."

Domenicali: Zandvoort raised the bar for European races

The 2025 Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled for late August, with the exact date of the final event, the 40th Dutch GP, to be confirmed. Reports from De Telegraaf and NOS suggest the 2026 finale at Zandvoort will feature a Sprint Race as part of the weekend.
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, said: “I am incredibly grateful for the work that the team at the Dutch Grand Prix have done in recent years. They raised the bar for European Grands Prix in terms of event spectacle and entertainment, and have also pioneered sustainable solutions that have inspired our events around the world as we drive towards being Net Zero by 2030.
“All parties positively collaborated to find a solution to extend the race, with many options, including alternation or annual events on the table, and we respect the decision from the promoter to finish its amazing run in 2026. I want to thank all the team at the Dutch Grand Prix and the Municipality of Zandvoort who have been fantastic partners to Formula 1," declared Domenicali.
With this announcement, Zandvoort prepares to conclude its modern F1 chapter, leaving a legacy of memorable racing and vibrant fan experiences.
