Having some fun on April 1st has become a GrandPrix247 tradition. As outlandish as these stories may be, F1 taught us never to rule out anything, hope you enjoyed our 2024 April Fool’s.

When Red Bull setup their pitwall at Suzuka for the forthcoming 2024 Japanese Grand Prix, for the first time since 2005 the name on the Team Principal chair will not be Christian Horner, instead it will be Jos Verstappen.

Father of Red Bull’s triple Formula 1 World Champion, Jos Verstappen is a former F1 driver having worked with the likes of Benetton to Honda, while having kept an eagle eye on his son’s surroundings throughout the kid’s meteoric rise from Karting through to F3 and of course F1 where he has been almost ever-present keeping an eye on proceedings.

The “sex-texting” scandal lit the fuse on Horner’s illustrious career as Red Bull F1 team boss, but after weathering the storm he drove home the point with an Oscar Award-deserving show of potent unity with his wife forever Spice Girl Geri Halliwell.

All appeared to be fine Down Under in Melbourne. And was until Max pulled to the side after a few laps with broken and burning brakes. His race over, his run of ten race victories in a row truncated. This appears to have prompted Horner into action.

Horners will focus on ‘Keeping up with the Spices’

This week he is expected to reveal that after the Jeddah ‘show’ with his wife, Netflix came knocking with a big cheque and are set to launch ‘Keeping up with the Spices’ with the lives of Christian and Geri in focus. A reality TV style show made famous by The Osbornes and nowadays by the Kardashians as a source close to the couple confirmed.

“With Geri so supportive of her husband, and he so lovingly flaunting her all over the Jeddah paddock it screamed ‘Until death do we part’ an old school concept worth reviving in a time of so much anger and disdain for basic values.

“For Netflix, so in love with F1 and the spin-offs, this was too much to resist. The couple were sent an offer for ‘Keeping up with the Spices’ which they pondered during the week ahead of the Australian Grand Prix.

After the no-podium finish for his drivers Verstappen and Sergio Perez, despite having the best car by a country mile, Horner decided enough is enough and time to step down.

A source, wishing to remain anonymous until the official announcement is made, said: “On Tuesday, in the UK with Geri, Horner signed the Netflix contract to partake in ‘Keeping up with the Spices’ for a whopping $50-million per season of 24 episodes. With extensions should ‘The Spices’ series (as it is called for short) prove to be a hit.”

Horner has achieved everything in F1 now he can get rich and have his own TV show

The source added: “It’s a slam dunk for the couple. Horner has achieved everything an F1 team boss can dream of. He has a lovely wife, and a great life and now needs something to keep him occupied and away from his WhatsApp, which the easy life of being F1 team principal did not do.

“Geri is delighted she can keep an eye on her former jet-set husband while hanging on to and even boosting her A-list status. The Spices can now flaunt it for everyone to see on TV.”

In the F1 paddock, Verstappen Senior winning over the Red Bull meant staying away from the Australian Grand Prix and going through the Red Bull corporate leadership induction program as he prepares to take control of Red Bull at a time when their dominance suffered a stabbing, by Ferrari at Albert Park last Sunday.

Insiders say staff across the board are split into two camps, those with Verstappen and those fearing where Red Bull F1 team will end up. A source who wishes to remain anonymous until this all blows over confirmed: “Jos arriving is hard to stomach for some.”

The most important thing for Red Bull is that Max is happy

But on the other side of the fence, there are those that are relieved Horner is gone and ‘The Spice Show’ is off their radar, an email confirmed: “Jos will bring in a breath of fresh air. His management style will be hands-on. If Jos can do it, you can do it attitude. With a little anger management, we will get his tendency to lash out physically under control.

“The most important thing for Red Bull is that Max is happy. What Max wants Max gets, and now what Jos wants Jos gets. This will make for harmony and the results will continue, not like Melbourne where Horner dropped the ball. It was the best thing he got his show and left the team, ” added our source from the Jos camp.

In terms of timeline, this is how the dominoes fell into place for this to happen: immediately after he emailed Netflix to confirm that he and Geri were doing the show, Horner’s next mail was his resignation letter to Red Bull HQ in Austria.

At which point to get the matter sorted ASAP, Red Bull head office – tired of fielding a dozen calls per day from JosV – called him in and gave him the job of replacing Horner as Team Principal.

The salary Verstappen Senior will get is not known, but it is said to be a ten-month deal until the end of this F1 season with a modest retainer with results-related bonuses, as well as financial penalties for losing his temper on TV.

Big Question: With Horner gone will Jos keep Red Bull as the winning machine it is today?
