Kyle.Engineers: The Mercedes W15

Kyle.Engineers, the expert aerodynamicist formerly working at Mercedes, has launched another interesting video, reviewing his former employer’s new Formula 1 car, the W15.

There are so many interesting aspects regarding the Mercedes W15, other than it would be the final Silver/Black Arrow Lewis Hamilton will drive before he moves to Ferrari in 2025.

The W15 represents a major departure from Mercedes’ design philosophy or interpretation of the “ground effect” rules after two failed campaigns in 2022 and 2023.

Despite Mercedes finishing runner up in the 2023 F1 Constructors’ Championship, such a result would certainly not be considered as an acceptable one for a team of their stature and achievements, especially that – unlike 2022 – they failed to win a single race last season.

So binning their “zeropod” idea and all the design path that came with it, the W15 has been developed with the aim of putting the eight-time F1 Constructors’ Champions back into the winners’ circle.

Other than the sidepods, there are other interesting components in the W15, with a distinctive front wing being the first item to catch the eye.

Kyle said: “The Mercedes W15 has brought along a very different sidepod philosophy to last year’s car, as well as an interesting front wing to match!

“In this video we’ll go through all the front wing legality, what it’s doing, and what the sidepods are up to as well,” he added.

So will the W15 be a winner? On looks it definitely seems so with the Silver and Black livery being one of the best revealed ahead of the 2024 F1 season.
