The 2024 Formula 1 World Championship grid is now finalised, as Williams today confirmed that Logan Sargeant will remain with the team for another year.
This comes despite a most unimpressive rookie season with the formerly great F1 team, turned backmarkers of late.
American Sargeant said in the press release confirming his place on the grid for 2024: “I am thrilled to be continuing with Williams Racing for the 2024 season. It has been an incredible journey with the team so far.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group. We have exciting plans for the future, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success in the coming year,” added the 22-year-old.
The American, who scored one point in his rookie season this year, had been the only remaining uncertainty with all other drivers confirmed.
The decision to retain Sargeant also meant there will be no driver change on the grid from the end of one season to the start of the next, a rarity in the history of Grand Prix racing.
Former champions Williams finished the season seventh overall this year, moving up from 10th and last in the previous campaign.
Reuters reports that Sargeant, despite being outqualified 22-0 by experienced Thai Albon, achieved several milestones including being the first driver from the USA in 30 years to score a point and first since 1987 to start a home grand prix in the top 10.
Sargeant, finished 10th in his home United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, in October, but only after two cars ahead of him were disqualified for failing post-race checks.
This means all ten F1 teams have now confirmed their main F1 driver line-ups for next season.
Williams Racing is delighted to announce that Logan Sargeant will continue to drive for the team for the 2024 Formula 1 season.
After his rookie season with Williams Racing, which saw the 22-year-old become the first American driver to score an F1 point in 30 years, Sargeant demonstrated the fundamental speed required to perform at the highest level, building on these foundations race by race, solidifying his place in the Williams Racing line-up.
Williams Racing looks forward to building on the positive momentum from the current season, in which it clinched seventh in the FIA Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship, and is confident that the combination of Sargeant’s raw skills with Alex Albon’s experience will lead to a successful 2024 campaign.
The extended partnership with Logan underscores Williams Racing’s commitment to nurturing and developing young talent in the world of Formula 1 as an alumnus of its highly regarded Driver Academy.
James Vowles, Team Principal, Williams Racing: “I am pleased to continue our journey with Logan into the 2024 season. Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season.”
