McLaren CEO Zak Brown hailed the job done Andrea Stella, insisting he can’t say enough good things about the Italian who took over the Team Principal role at the start of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
McLaren have been going through a lot of changes recently, Andreas Seidl leaving to Sauber at the start of the 2023 season, with Stella promoted from within to replace him.
And as the team 2023 F1 challenger, the MCL60 turned out to be a disappointment, Stella oversaw a full restructuring of the technical team, with Technical Director James Key ousted in the process, while Red Bull engineering boss Rob Marshall was hired as Technical Director and will join Woking at the start of 2024.
As for the MCL60, McLaren brought a major upgrade to it in Austria, which turned their season around, as the Papaya cars became podium contenders since then, Lando Norris bagging seven podiums since then, while Oscar Piastri took two podium not to mention him winning the Sprint Race in Qatar.
The proof is in the pudding
Quoted by F1’s official website, Brown gave his judgement on the job Stella has done since taking over the hot seat at the McLaren F1 outfit, he said: “Andrea has done a fantastic job – he’s a tremendous leader.
“He’s a great communicator, he empowers the team, he listens, he gives great direction – I can’t say enough great things about him,” he added.
The American went on justifying his verdict, and said: “The proof is in the pudding. Look at what he inherited at the start of the year, which was kind of the ninth-quickest car.
“We’ve been in the second half of the year kind of the second-, third-quickest car, [scoring] a pole, lots of podiums, so it’s credit to Andrea and everyone in the racing team. It’s a team effort, which is great to see,” Brown concluded.
McLaren finished the 2023 F1 season fourth in the Constructors’ Standings beating Aston Martin – who had a better start to the season – by 22 points.
Big Question: Do you agree that Andrea Stella has done a great job at McLaren?
