The Spanish Grand Prix takes place 0n 4 June 2023, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where the race has been hosted since 1991. This is what to expect this weekend.
Williams dominated the first four races held at the circuit until Michael Schumacher halted his streak in 1995. In the recent past, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen led the race to secure a 1-2 victory over Sergio Perez at the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix. George Russel settled for the third spot.
The 2023 Spanish Grand Prix will kick off on Sunday, June 04, 2023, at 14:00 BST. This will be the 33rd Spanish Grand Prix held at the venue and Round 7 of the 2023 Formula 1 season. The trend of the venue hosting the Spanish Grand Prix will continue since the Catalunya track secured a new deal with Formula 1.
Spanish Grand Prix Weekend Schedule
Fernando Alonso will be back in action at the front of the grid; no wonder the 2023 edition of the Spanish Grand Prix almost sold out when the tickets became available. Reports suggest that around 40000 tickets were sold within days of being available in November 2022. Last year’s event attracted over 275000 fans.
The event also attracts the attention of sports betting fans globally. Data from online betting platforms such as Betway reveals that many bettors wager on Grand Prix events, including the Spanish Grand Prix. This year’s event at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is also expected to attract more fans and betting enthusiasts.
Major On-Track Changes
There is a significant on-track change at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix. They have removed the awkward final chicane and reverted the track layout to its previous configuration.
The sweeping right-hand bend, which made up the final corner before 2007, will be back in action. These alterations are intended to make the race more exciting.
Also, new TECPRO barriers will be introduced in the last two high-speed corners. The official length of the Catalunya track will be 4.657 kilometers, 18 meters shorter than the previous one.
Other changes include widening the run-off area in Turn 1 to include 70 meters of gravel and a 5% slope. There will also be a new fence to protect Turn 1 and 2 and enhance driver safety.
The venue will also remodel the scoreboard at the pit lane exit to include a more modern signaling tower. The curbs and tire barriers will also be repainted and replaced.
The venue’s management will also enlarge and modernize the corporate and hospitality areas of the long pit building along the main straight. It seems the 2023 Spanish Grand Prix is set to offer the fans, including the betting fans on Betway, an exciting experience.
Formula 1 Feeder Series
Formula 2 and Formula 3 series will appear on this weekend’s support schedule in Barcelona. Each of the series will compete in two races over the weekend.
