Mercedes announced that their 2023 Formula 1 challenger, the W14, will be introduced to the world on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Mercedes were the first team to fire up their 2023 F1 car, as they shared a video on social media showing a team of engineers completing the preparations to start up the new car, before starting it and revving the engine.
Mercedes are targeting to put the disappointment of their 2022 car, the W13, behind, as despite its innovative “Zeropod” design was slow with high tendency to “porpoise”.
Lewis Hamilton ended up with a winless season, while George Russell managed to win the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Mercedes said in a statement about the new car: “The Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E PERFORMANCE, forged from the challenges of the testing 2022 campaign, will break cover at a special digital launch event broadcast live from Silverstone.
Mercedes building on lessons learned in 2022
“The 2023 car builds on the lessons learned from last year, which forced the Team to confront and overcome numerous challenges with the W13. The progress enabled by the efforts and determination of everyone at Brackley and Brixworth helped achieve stronger results from mid-season onwards, culminating in a 1-2 finish at the São Paulo Grand Prix,” the statement added.
Despite the problematic W13, Mercedes managed to finish third in the 2022 Constructors’ Championship behind second-placed Ferrari and Champions Red Bull.
Hamilton, who was sixth in the Drivers’ Standings, managed to stand on the podium nine times, while Russell who ended his first season with Mercedes fourth in the Drivers’ Championship, took eight podiums, one of which was his win at Interlagos.
This one goes out to all of our team-mates in Brackley and Brixworth who never gave up. 👏
