Seidl to replace Vasseur?

Andreas Seidl, according to various media reports is set to replace Frederic Vassuer at Alfa Romeo (Sauber), the Frenchman confirmed to be leaving his post on Tuesday.

The reports came in light of Audi’s buy in into Sauber as the German automaker plans to enter Formula 1 in 2026, when new power unit regulations are set to take effect.

Seidl is not stranger to Audi, as he was Team Principal of Porsche’s LMP1 outfit when the German marque won three Le Mans titles in a row from 2015 to 2017.

With Vasseur confirmed to be Mattia Binotto’s replacement as Ferrari Team Principal, Seidl’s move to Alfa Romeo (Sauber) may well be the second move in the game of team principals’ musical chairs.

Seidl joined McLaren as team principal back in January 2019, and has been with the Woking squad since then as he, along with McLaren CEO spearheaded the post Ron Dennis era at the team.

McLaren has improved under Seidl’s leadership, but are not back at the front of the grid, the team even taking a step backwards in 2022, beaten by Alpine to fourth in the F1 Constructors’ Championship.

McLaren Head of Communications has been approached and asked to comment on these reports. Watch this space…
