Alex Albon paid tribute to outgoing Williams team boss Jost Capito, claiming the German was not only his Team Principal but also a great friend.
Capito gave Albon the chance to get back onto the Formula 1 grid in 2022, after the Thai was let go by Red Bull at the end of the 2020 season, spending 2021 on the sidelines.
But Capito was announced to be leaving the team along with technical director Francois-Xavier Demaison on Monday with no replacements announced yet.
Alex Albon took to social media to pay tribute to Capito; he said: “We only had one year working together but in that time you were not just a Team Principal but also a great friend.
“Thank you Jost for your faith in me this year and all the support that that came with. Wishing you the very best in the future,” he added.
Logan Sargeant also some words for his departing boss
Albon’s 2023 teammate, American Logan Sargeant was also given his break in top flight by Capito, and will be joining the team from Formula 2 after accumulating the Super License points he needed to race in F1.
Sargeant also thanked Capito saying: “Jost, thank you for having the trust and belief in me throughout my time in the academy and helping me on my path to F1. He gave me an opportunity to show my potential and race in Formula 2.
“He has been a great team leader, and I wish him the best in whatever the future may hold,” the American concluded.
Capito has been team boss at Williams since June 2021, and on his watch, the team finished eighth in the 2021 Constructors’ Championship, but dropped back to tenth in 2022.
